A product’s greatest strength can sometimes become its greatest weakness. This radio station has been on-the-air for 50 years. Heritage is wonderful until a competitor positions you as predicable, staid, and boring. Over the years, as the station tried new and different morning shows, this was its image – the lack of consistency in morning drive worked against it, too.
The Strategic Solution
We hired this team to be the show of the future. All in their 20s and 30s, we did to our competitor in two years what they did to us many years ago – we repositioned their morning show as predictable, staid, and boring. Locally owned, we can move quickly when coming up with an idea that might generate talk. The team gets out regularly in the community to meet listeners and turn them into converts.
The Results
Just under three years in, the show is consistently #2 W25-54 and P25-54 in the market. Not only that, they are having an even bigger (and positive) impact on the brand than anyone thought possible by this point.
