Want me to show your team how to strategically develop kick-ass content that turns listeners into raving fans?
When the Intern Lies
Interns can be fun! What would you do if you suspected an intern lied to you? Here’s one from Karson & Kennedy at MIX 104.1, Boston. After an intern called in sick, they suspected the lie when reading her Facebook page from the evening before (lots and lots of drinking). So what did they do? The confronted her on the show about it, with her mother on the hotline! After everything was aired, their was penance to be paid to stay with the show. Listen and enjoy!
Bill Tafrow’s Driving Test
One of the on-going jokes on the Tiffany and Michael Morning Show on B101, Philadelphia is how bad a driver news guy Bill Tafrow is. So bad that we decided to test him publicly by setting up a narrative story arc over a couple of days to test him. Here are two breaks from that arc. The first is when Bill and the rest of the team get their written test results. The second break is audio from the next day when Bill goes out with a driving instructor, who grades him very poorly. These are terrific examples of character driven content. These are the kinds of things listeners identfy with and remember.
The 5@6:45
We do a feature on a few shows called “The Five @ 6:45”. Each morning at 6:45, the listener plays a trivia game based on a Hot Topic. Each member of the show’s cast offers up their category, hoping the listener will choose them. It’s a simple way to give out a prize and to do something those listening at home or in their cars can vicariously play along with. Here are two versions. One from Jimmy & Yvonne on DAVE FM, Atlanta and the other from Candy & Potter on KMPS, Seattle.
KMPS Senseless Survey
“Senseless Survey” is feature where a show calls an unsuspecting citizen and asks them a bunch of totally senseless questions just to see how they’ll react. The questions are quirky and funny and the feature is, too. Here it is, as done by Candy & Potter on KMPS, Seattle.
Shanny’s Granny
What could be more fun than having a cast member’s grandmother sing the hooks to popular hits as listeners vie to win prizes by naming the artist and title of the songs? On Mojo in the Morning on Channel 95.5, Detroit, Shannon’s grandmother accepts the task. Marrying the two concepts works to make laughter. Listen to this segment called “Shanny’s Granny” and hear how they use all of the audio to have fun.
