WBMX Mom Mom on the Super Bowl

Karson & KennedyWhen Baltimore played San Francisco in last month’s Super Bowl, Karson and Kennedy, MIX 104.1, Boston, found yet another reason to talk with Karson’s grandmother, who is the Ravens’s number one fan.  Besides being just fun to listen to her carry on (she is a real character), this break turns Karson, the show anchor, into Karson the grandson.  Everyone plays their role in humanizing the team because they are who they are.  This one’s well-crafted and has lots of laughs so it’s sticky.

The Sequestration

With The Sequestration in full-on mode and it occupying news space, here’s an idea, as done by Sean Henry at Lite Rock B103, Rockford, IL, that’ll be quite relatable to parents and kids. Call your spouse and children on the air to propose that all allowances in the household get cut by 1.7% (the sequestration cut) until it ends in Washington, DC.  See how your kids and spouse react to that proposal!

What Aren’t They Telling Us?

The Pope resigns and people speculate what happened.  Kim Kardashian gets pregnant and the rumors begin.  Jack Nicholson approaches Jennifer Lawrence to proposition her at the Oscars and everyone guesses as to what’s up.  All stuff ripe for gossip.  As Americans we like to make stuff up when we don’t know the full story.  Which leads to a new feature called, “What Aren’t They Telling Us?”  You throw out the juicy pop culture or news item and listeners make up components of the story to begin the rumor mill!

WGFB The Driver’s License

Sean & MichelleOne of the few kinds of content which cannot be duplicated by a competitor is personal experience content.  It also might be the best content to do because it defines the characters on the show and is the most authentic to creating loyalty and an “I feel like I know them” vibe between the talent and listener.  Sean and Michelle, on Lite Rock B103, Rockford, IL did a simple, yet highly effective character-building break when they talked to Michelle’s son about getting his driver’s license.  How many moms do you think were in the audience nodding their heads up and down laughing at this exchange?
