Back over the summer when it was incredibly hot in the northeast, there was an air conditioner war going on in the home of Tiffany Hill, from the Tiffany and Michael Show at B101, Philadelphia. Tiffany’s husband, David, liked it set at 60, she liked it set at 68. How to resolve this? By the use of trivia, of course. In this audio segment, Tiffany turned the air conditioning down one degree for every heat-related trivia question David got right. This one’s fun!

This is a special version because she payed against Perez Hilton! We billed this as the Showbiz Queen verses the Showbiz Queen!
Here’s why this interview with the Food Network’s Bobby Flay on Karson & Kennedy on MIX 104.1, Boston is a terrific one. Great interviews bring people inside through story-telling and get the interviewee to reveal something we listeners don’t know. In the first half, Bobby talks about getting vegetables out of Michelle Obama’s garden at the White House (brings me inside by telling a story) and in the back half, he admits that his new show, positioned as though it’s done at his home, actually isn’t as it’s a TV set (told me what I didn’t know).
Shannon from Mojo in the Morning on Channel 95.5, Detroit was chosen to co-host The Regis and Kelly Show for a day while Kelly is on vacation. The Mojo team excels in innovation – it’s one of the reasons they always win in the ratings. Listen here as Mojo gets Regis to call and congratulate Shannon the day after finding out she won. If something smells funny when Regis gets sexual with Shannon, it’s for a reason – the Regis in this call is a fake. All good-natured fun to create some laughs! The real Regis called in the next hour!
If you target women, kids are always gold. That’s why when the northeast went through its last heatwave a cople of weeks ago, Tiffany and Michael at B101, Philadelphia, downloaded “how hot is it” jokes off the internet, went to a local public pool (where the kids are) and had them read them. Listen to the produced piece here and know that every mom (B101’s audience) was laughing right along!
Karson & Kennedy at MIX 104,1 Boston went out and rented DVDs for an afternoon. They were in search of scenes in Mel Gibson movies where his character got angry. They set those aside and edited some of his ugly phone calls to Oksana for a fun game called “Angry or Acting”. They played an audio clip for a listener who had to determine if Mel was acting angry or actually angry. It’s fun and here it is!
With the Mel Gibson story front and center, NOW, New York City’s Nick Cannon decided he wanted to get into a new profession to help Mel. So as an anger management counselor, Nick rang Mel up on Skype for a little conversation! Innovation is what makes shows unique. Here’s a great example of an idea no one else thought of that made Nick stand out in that moment, creating an environment where listeners would come back for more because they had so much fun hearing this.
A fun way we end all artist interviews on syndicated country show Tony & Kris is a feature called “60 Seconds”. The guys throw questions at the artist in rapid fire form, asking them to answer with the first thing that hits them. All the questions are personal so they reveal themselves. In the process, we find out some inside stuff about the artist and arm ourselves with fresh places to go the next time we talk with them.
With the slow drip of damning Mel Gibson audio out, Karson & Kennedy at MIX 104.1, Boston decided to bring out audio of other celebrities having meltdowns. They did a game called, “Know Your Celebrity Rants”. Despite the fact that the contestant seemed stumped, imagine people at home or in their cars laughing and playing along to all these great audio drops.
It’s absolutely the best when a show gets creative around a Hot Topic. Listen as Chris Carr, Maverick, and Statt, the morning show at B105, Cincinnati have some fun with Al and Tipper Gore’s recent announcement that they’re divorcing. Statt knows why…as you’ll hear in the audio he “found” of pick up lines in Al’s match.com ad.
